The SNPs were genotyped in a population of 630 Caucasian, non-diabetic individuals, consisting of 325 men and 305 women. The average age of the population is 39.5 ± 8 years for men and 36.1 ± 8.3 years for women. Data were analyzed for an association between the individual SNPs and high fasting insulin levels in the population. High insulin levels were defined as fasting values above the 75th percentile (9.2 µU/ml).
